Here at Nirvana, we love to give back to our local community through donations to events supporting the arts and local charities. This Saturday we will be supporting the Friends of Bayou St. John and many local vendors who sustained damage to equipment or lost money due to the severe storm that lead to the annual festival’s unfortunate cancellation.
On Friday May 18, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo festival site along Bayou St. John sustained heavy damage and loss of opportunities for sales due to extreme winds and over 3.3 inches of rain, just before the festival opening. Various equipment and tents were mangled or destroyed due to what was later declared by the National Weather Service as a microburst (a small tornado.) A video of the storm and damage may be viewed here.
“The Lost Set: A Bayou Boogaloo Benefit,” will take place on Saturday, June 30 at Tipitina’s Uptown to benefit the 115 food and art vendors affected by the severe weather. The concert will feature AF, The Low End Theory Players (A Tribe Called Quest tribute band), Debauche and Tony Hall’s Allstars Band which includes Alvin Ford Jr, Ari Teitel, Tillis Verdin, Khris Royal, Renard Poche, Tracy Griffins, Roderick Paulin, Vitas Paukstaitis. Entertainment for the evening is sponsored by Positive Vibrations Foundation.
